Royaltiz - Prototyping Talent Tokenization in Web3

Consulting / Innovation

Objective – Reaching new investors through talent tokenization

Royaltiz is a startup that offers the opportunity to invest in talented and/or promising personalities across various fields, such as football players, rugby athletes, musicians, MMA fighters, or influencers. The core idea relies on a system similar to shareholder investments, where investors buy ROY tokens representing the performance of talents they believe in. In exchange, the talents commit to sharing a percentage of their revenue with their investors based on the amount of ROY tokens they hold.

To attract new investors, Royaltiz wanted to explore the possibilities of talent tokenization via blockchain. The openness and transparency of the Web3 ecosystem would allow Royaltiz to increase trust by providing visibility on token generation and transaction flows. To start off, the company planned to tokenize the football player Riyad Mahrez.

Challenges – A fast and efficient solution tailored to the client’s resources

Royaltiz’s approach was exploratory, with the primary objective being to assess the potential opportunities and limitations of implementing Web3 technology for talent tokenization. The project had tight constraints on both timing and budget, requiring the creation of a relevant prototype quickly and cost-effectively. Therefore, ekino had to deliver rapid and efficient services within a 10-day timeframe to meet the client’s demands.

Our Solution – Consulting and prototyping

Ekino’s intervention began with consulting to help Royaltiz define the functional and technical aspects of their Web3 project. This phase included a benchmark of various blockchain networks (Tezos, Polygon, etc.), helping identify the best solution for the client. The Binance Smart Chain (BSC) was ultimately selected due to its cost-effectiveness and fast transactions, alongside its ecosystem, which included decentralized exchange PancakeSwap—where the client wanted to integrate their ROY token.

In the second phase, ekino developed a prototype for talent tokenization within the Web3 framework. Specifically, we created and tested a BEP-20 token, which, in addition to classic features (transfer, transfer rights allocation, etc.), allows Royaltiz and the talent to unlock tokens after a set period. Ekino’s team also assisted Royaltiz’s technical team with deploying the token and integrating it into PancakeSwap.

  • “With Mahrez, we move to a new level: not only do we sign a talent we admire, whose tenacity has propelled him to the top of world football, but his fame and popularity allow us to enter a new cycle. We’re stepping into the world of blockchain, NFTs, and crypto with a great deal of excitement, as we’re opening up new possibilities.”

Results – A deployed, functional prototype and a clearer vision of blockchain adoption for talent tokenization

The ROY token linked to footballer Riyad Mahrez was successfully deployed on the Binance Smart Chain and made available on the PancakeSwap DEX.

The Web3 consultancy, guidance in design, and prototyping enabled Royaltiz to evaluate the advantages and limitations of using blockchain for talent tokenization. This offered them a transparent, modern alternative to their existing Web2-based business model. Though the solution wasn’t ultimately adopted for various reasons, the project provided valuable insights into the potential migration to blockchain, with a relatively low time and financial resource commitment.
